Styling Your Session

Align your outfits + location to elevate your photos

There are a lot of pretty clothes out there, but they don’t all shine in the same spot. A long, flowy dress might get lost in a coffee shop setting, but will bring a whimsical softness to a wooded area or in-home shoot. The right texture, style, and color of your clothes for your location can take your photos to the next level.

Keep in mind

COMFORT & EASE

Wear something you feel great in! If you’re confident in your clothes, you’ll be more confident in your photos. Use this as an opportunity to step outside the box and express your style! Choose items you don’t have to worry about - avoid shirts that easily come untucked, bulky layers, pesky bra straps, etc.

COLORS & PATTERNS

Color is important! It brings your photos to life. There are always exceptions, but I typically recommend a palette of 3-4 colors and/or 1-2 quiet patterns. I love a mix of warm & cool colors - think dusty blue with mauve or rust. Choose colors that won’t get lost in the location.

TEXTURE & LAYERS

Texture is one of those things you can really feel through photos - don’t avoid it! Layers are a great way to mix it up and can be easily thrown on and off. A simple way to add variety or tone down a pattern is by adding a denim jacket or oversized cardigan.

Shopping and styling tips

Gals

Bring accessories: a wide-brim hat or a jean jacket can go a long way! These are simple things that we can quickly throw on and off.

Long dresses, skirts, and jumpsuits add a bold but natural vibe for mama and look good on everyone! These work in outdoor locations as well as inside.

I love linen pull-on pants because they are stylish but still cozy - perfect for in-home sessions! Jeans are a great staple if you want to keep things simple - just make sure they’re comfy so you can move around!

Shops I love: Free People, Baltic Born, Roolee, Bohemian Mama, Madewell

Guys

Casual button-down shirts, henleys, or tees with a jacket are a great versatile look for guys. If shirts don’t have to be tucked in, it allows for more freedom of movement.

Vans, Vejas or casual boots (not to be confused with dress shoes) are great shoe options that are comfy and casual but still take a guy’s look to the next level.

Shops I love: H&M, Zara, Asos, Madewell

Kids

Dress your children in something they can run around in! Try to avoid stiff layers or shirts that need to be tucked in for kiddos, too - it’s one less thing to worry about!
